I think you have to know "when" to go! I belonged to the Y for a while and most of the action happened as it got closer to closing time which was at 9pm! The after work crowd would come in around 5:30 / 6 ... and it'd start thinning out around 7:30. If there were still guys "hanging" around and showering and going in and out of the steam room and sauna after 8 or 8:30, you knew that they were looking for action! I found that to be the way of it at most clubs .. especially if the gym has a "wet area" in the mens locker room!
